Constantine N. Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building, Drexel University

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

Project Description

In 2009, Philadelphia’s Drexel University opened the Constantine N. Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building, home to the school’s biology department. Designed by Diamond Schmitt Architects, Crossey Engineering created the electrical and mechanical systems for the 150,000 sq. ft. facility.

The College of Arts and Sciences’ Gold LEED-certified Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building is home to North America’s largest living bio wall - and the only wall of its kind in a U.S. university. The high living bio wall helps to cool the air in summer and circulate heat in the winter.

With an approximate construction cost of $69 million, the building features modular laboratories, faculty research laboratories, administration offices, classrooms, lecture halls, and conference rooms that were also integrated into the layout.
