University of Toronto Terrence Donnelly Health Sciences Complex

Mississauga, Ontario

Completed in 2011, Crossey Engineering provided the electrical and mechanical design services, as well as the lighting design through our affiliate, Consullux Lighting Consultants, to the University of Toronto Mississauga’s Terrence Donnelly Health Sciences Complex. A sustainable facility that promotes collaborative research and learning environments, it is home to the Mississauga Academy of Medicine and the University of Toronto’s biomedical communications program. Spaces were constructed for the Department of Anthropology, laboratories, lecture halls, and medical teaching classrooms.

The four storey building is designed as a series of stacked boxes, with a multi-level atrium that connects the complex to a neighbouring heritage building. From the exterior, numerous glass panels allow a glimpse of the many interconnecting floors and brightly coloured walls, reflective of the facility’s collaborative nature. The Terrence Donnelly Complex serves as a pedagogical structure for student development and, like its rooftop garden and innovative layout, serves to ensure a bright future for our community.
