| Detroit Orchestra Hall, Detroit, United States |
|
Detroit Symphony Hall was originally constructed in 1919. A large expansion of the facility was completed in 2003. Crossey Engineering provided the Mechanical, Electrical and Lighting design services for the renovation to the existing building and the addition of 150,000 sq. ft. addition which included a new 250 seat theatre, rehearsal hall, backstage services, dressing rooms, and administration. The existing 2064 seat theatre was only partially air conditioned prior to the renovation. Crossey Engineering replaced the existing air conditioning with an under-floor air distribution system for the Orchestra Level and overhead air distribution for the Balconies. The air distribution was provided by blowing the air through the existing art work in the existing ceilings. This enabled us to provide air conditioning for the Hall without affecting the appearance of the Hall. We also upgraded and refurbished the lighting fixtures. The project recently received a Special Citation Award from the IESNA for the design of the Lobby lighting. Completed: 2003 Architects: Diamond and Schmitt Architects Inc.
